Title: | Food Security in South Asia |
Author/s: | Puspa Sharma, Saeeduddin Faridi |
Abstract: | Globally, food insecurity is analysed through various lenses, including hunger, undernourishment, child stunting and wasting (and child mortality), as well as the ability to afford a healthy diet, among others. Over the years, many South Asian countries have made significant progress in addressing these aspects of food insecurity. However, more than 300 million people in South Asia – the highest number of any region in the world – continue to experience chronic undernourishment.
This issue of the South Asia Discussion Papers explores key issues related to food security in the South Asian region. The eight chapters – each focusing on a specific South Asian country – examine unique challenges and highlight the need for strengthened policies to improve food security and nutrition across South Asia. |
