Abstract: The Indo-Pacific region’s rapidly growing economies and pivotal trade routes endow its strategic importance in global economic and geopolitical affairs. The increasing tensions among key players that play out in the region, highlight the urgent need for robust frameworks that safeguard not only its economic prosperity but also its security. In this context, the Indo-Pacific Economic Framework (IPEF) represents an initial attempt in creating a rules-based framework that aims to promote economic integration, strengthen resilience and enhance cooperation among countries within the region.

Jointly produced by the Konrad Adenauer Stiftung’s Regional Economic Programme Asia and the Institute of South Asian Studies at the National University of Singapore, this publication, IPEF Regulations and their Impact on the Economic Security of the Indo-Pacific Region, provides insights into the evolving rules that govern the IPEF and examines their potential to shape the region’s economic landscape. With contributions from experts in international trade, regional politics and economic security, it provides a comprehensive analysis of the IPEF’s potential impact on the economic security of the Indo-Pacific. It goes beyond mere policy discussions, offering insightful perspectives on how the framework can enhance collective efforts to address challenges such as supply chain vulnerabilities, the transition towards clean energy and rapid and, sometimes, overwhelming technological advancements.

We hope that this publication will offer readers a valuable understanding of the IPEF’s significance, exploring the framework’s influence on regional and global economic security in an era of increasing uncertainty.
