Description: | Although Japan and India remained aloof from each other during the Cold-War era, the bilateral relations between the two have seen a dramatic turnaround in the post-Cold War era. Shared strategic interests, IndiaÔÇÖs improving ties with the US and cross-party support in India for stronger Japan-India ties have helped to bring Tokyo and New Delhi together. Japan was the first country outside the immediate neighbourhood that PM Modi visited after taking charge in New Delhi. This seminar will examine the changes and the continuity in Japan-India ties after the Modi administration came to power in India. It will highlight the main issues of cooperation and the challenges in the ties between India and Japan, which forms a very important aspect of IndiaÔÇÖs ÔÇ£Look-East PolicyÔÇØ. |
