During her two-day visit to the Indian State of West Bengal in late May 2018, Bangladesh’s
Prime Minister, Sheikh Hasina Wajed, discussed several issues with India’s Prime Minister,
Narendra Modi and the Chief Minister of West Bengal, Mamata Banerjee. However, little
headway was made on the Rohingya issue. Also, the contentious issue of the sharing of
Teesta river waters between India and Bangladesh remained unresolved. Similarly, the
consequences of the publication of the final list of the updated National Register of
Citizenship did not find its way onto the agenda during the visit.
